Columbus WordPress Theme

Columbus is another free WordPress theme developed by wpexplorer! The idea behind Columbus was to create a theme that followed some pretty standard blog design/layout and that included some nifty features typically only found in premium themes. I spent some time making the back-end of this theme very clean and well documented to make it easier for people looking to customize the theme, but I also added some great customization options to the back-end for those whom do not want to mess with any of the code.
I have incorporated some great WordPress 3.0 features such as the menu system, custom header and custom background. I have also made use of the Timthumb script to automatically re-size your images and as opposed to having to use the custom fields, images can be pulled automatically from your post – the theme will grab your first image and use it as the featured post image.

Post Thumbnails – How To Add Them

Columbus makes use of the latest WP 3.0+ featured image which allows you to quickly add images to your post. To do so log into your post editor and click the link on the right side titled “Featured Image”, upload an image, then set it as you featured image.

Optional Carousel Slider

The carousel slider on the homepage is optional and all settings regarding to the slider can be changed via the theme panel. You can select your featured category from a drop-down and you can select the transition speed of your images.
